WordPress – User Roles
In this chapter, we will learn about user roles in WordPress. Each user is assigned a specific role, which defines their permissions and level of access to the website. These roles can only be assigned by the Administrator.
The following are the predefined roles available in WordPress:
Administrator − The Administrator has full control over the website. They can perform all tasks, including creating or removing users, assigning roles, and managing all site settings.
Editor − The Editor has access to all posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, and links. They can create, edit, publish, or delete any content on the site.
Author − The Author can write, edit, and publish their own posts, as well as upload media files such as images.
Contributor − The Contributor can write and edit their own posts, but cannot publish them. They also cannot upload media files. Their posts must be reviewed and approved by an Administrator before publishing, and once published, they cannot make further changes.
Follower − The Follower can read and comment on posts. These users are typically subscribed to receive updates from your site.
Viewer − The Viewer can only view posts and may be allowed to comment, but they cannot make any changes to the content.
